If someone asked me what my favorite cheese is, I would say halloumi. I love the squeaky texture and the salty flavor. And I love the fact that you can grill it or sear it without it completely falling apart, which instead brings out the flavor and makes it that much tastier.
In this dish, the sweet maple syrup perfectly compliments the salty halloumi bringing out a sweet-and-salty flavor. The dish is then topped with tart pomegranate arils and crunchy pumpkin seeds, making it the perfect holiday appetizer.
Did I mention it is the easiest appetizer to throw together last minute? With so many holiday parties this year, I’ve been in need of something I can throw together last minute. I’ve had a few parties for work, with friends, and with family. So, needless to say it’s been pretty busy and I’ve barely had time to cook. This appetizer can be thrown together in less than ten minutes yet is such a crowd pleaser, making it the perfect thing to bring to your holiday party.
My boyfriend and I are going to a Christmas party this Saturday, and I am going to bring this dish as an appetizer. Besides the party, we are going to go downtown and look at the Christmas lights in the public garden and Boston Commons and watch all the Christmas movies. I can’t wait to fully get into the holiday spirit!!
Happy Holiday’s, ya’ll!
Seared Halloumi with Pomegranate and Maple Syrup
Ingredients
- 2 8-ounce packages of Halloumi Cheese
- 1/4 cup Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup warmed
- 1/4 cup Pomegranate Arils
- 2 tablespoons Pumpkin Seeds
Instructions
- Take the halloumi out of the package and cut in half (cut the halves diagonally if you want smaller pieces). Pat the halloumi dry with paper towels.
- Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Place the halloumi pieces in the skillet and sear until golden brown on each side, about two minutes each side. Cook the halloumi in batches and add more oil, as needed.
- When the halloumi is golden brown, transfer to a plate topped with paper towels to absorb the oil.
- Warm the maple syrup in the microwave and place the halloumi on a serving plate.
- Drizzle the halloumi with the maple syrup and top with the pomegranate arils and pumpkin seeds.
- Serve and enjoy!
